New – Film Scoring Demos

Contemporary Scores

The footage for the first section (“NASA”) is public domain, and the second section (“Graveyard”) is all original iPhone footage.

We put the video together in Premiere Proacronym short for Publishing Rights Organization, such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and brought it into Logic Pro X, marked some hits and set the tempo mapComponent in MIDI data defining the tempo and tempo changes in a musical piece or track, and instantiated Omnisphere 2 and started looking for sounds.

We instantiated Omnisphere as a multiA single multi-channel, multi-output instance of a virtual instrument in a digital music mixing environment. We crossfaded multiple “arpeggiated” patterns (grooves) for a kaleidoscopic textural effect, then added sparse traditional elements using East/West Opus libraries, and NI’s “Stradiveri Cello” from the Cremona Quartet series  in Kontakt. Some samples were also added directly to the session, and one sample looped as a Kontakt instrument. The instrumental scoring was done in Finale, ReWired into Logic.

Retro Scores

The intent was to reflect a wide variety of compositional styles using hybrid (mostly traditional) instruments.

I started by assembling personal videos in Adobe Premiere. I brought the video into Logic, created SMPTE sync markers, picked some tempos, created a midiA protocol for communicating musical information, such as notes and control signals, between electronic musical instruments and computers. click, and brought the tempoThe speed at which a piece of music is performed, often indicated in beats per minute. map into Finale, then ReWired Finale into Logic.

This was scored in Finale using Garritan Personal Orchestra, Garritan Jazz and Big Band, and some Garritan Instruments for Finale, none of which are used in the Logic production file – which is almost entirely Opus Hollywood series, along with some NI factory sounds, and Evolution Hollowbody Blues, and one Apple synth patch.

I exported the midi into Logic and started assigning sounds to the tracks.

Both of these videos were completed in 10 days’ time, November 2022
