We offer music production services for ensembles of any size. Tracks can be recorded through the use of sampled instrument sounds, or using human performers, or any combination of those.
Located in NY, we have access to world-class musicians and are able to add them to our sessions, or schedule complete recording sessions with everyone present. We also work with individual session musicians remotely to add them to tracks.
These days, more and more venues hiring performers require backing tracks, rather than sheet music arrangements for live musicians.
We can produce tracks from our arrangements.
We begin in Finale music notation software, completing the arrangement first.
The advantage of starting in Finale is your end result consists of sheet music parts and score, as well as complete digital information for music production.
Finale can produce reasonably good backing tracks. These mix/masters are included in our fee for arranging.
If live musicians are a needed element, or for greater control over the quality, sound and feeling of the produced track, it’s necessary to bring the music score information (MIDI data) into a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Logic X or ProTools and set up a session, routing all midi tracks through virtual instruments, with effects and submix busses. This is the next step toward high-end audio production. The Logic or Pro Tools sessions are portable, usable in professional recording studios.
Setup of a DAW session is “engineering,” and is quoted and billed separately from “arranging.” Following setup, we can mix interactively with our customers via screen share from our studio – or meet in a recording studio for larger sessions, including tracking of vocals and other instruments.
A DAW session offers the following advantages:
- Granular control of all mix parameters
- Sample-accurate tempo map editing
- Access to other sound libraries not supported in Finale
- The ability to record vocalists and instruments to complete a demo or master recording of a track
We bill a setup fee to import the MIDI into the DAW, and set up the routing and effects. Fees range from $75 to $200 per individual midi file, depending on the size of the score, quoted in advance.
We bill subsequent studio time for mixing and production services at $75/hr.
We’ve included a calculator to estimate possible studio costs for larger sessions.
